STRATEGIC IMPORTANCE & NEED FOR IMPROVEMENT:
Peripheral hospitals like RTRM Hospital are an important need of the local population as well as that of the health system. If things can be managed in periphery, the work -load of bigger central hospitals would automatically reduce.
Delhi Govt. has taken some steps to improve functioning of hospitals like RTRMH, such as,
- Enhancing financial powers of the MS as HOD under H&FW Dept.
- Strengthening pre-hospital care by through larger fleet of ambulances under Centralized Accident & Trauma Service –CATS.
- Supply of drugs at cheap rates through Central Procurement Agency.
Future Expansion and addition of beds:
The bed occupancy ratio at RTRM Hospital has consistently been more than 95 percent for several years now and rising to more than 100% in summer months. Almost half of the patients cross over from adjoining Haryana. Accordingly 100 more beds are proposed to be added through construction of a new, state-of-the-art 7-storeyed Indoor Block complete with ICU, modular OT’s, delivery rooms and emergency. The building plans are approved by DUAC, Fire and MCD. Process is on to obtain the Environmental Clearance and approval of EFC of Delhi Govt. is on. If things go smooth, project is likely to become functional by 2016 if not earlier.
